In order to preserve the history of the Lighthouse and keep it as the center of attention, we kept untouched it´s original access. For that the new buildings were designed to be as low as possible, to be discrete in the landscape, respecting the hight of the most important and symbolic building. In 15.4 m level - 80 cm below the lighthouse floor - which protects and observes - was deployed a walking path for the complex as well as a Belvedere in Iblei Stone (Pietra di Siracusa) seeking dialogue with the neighboring cities. This path that also aims to define the area and create a square to the Lighthouse - now an art museum with a green terrace occupied by a cafe for visitors, and an arts school in the adjacent building stimulating visitation and use of the site.
The sculpture garden deployed in this area is intended to be an exhibition park of artists from the region, integrating art with nature composed of sculptures and landscaping planned with the local vegetation.
A spa/ pool complex independent of the hotel was also designed bringing more people to the place despite if they are guests of the hotel. Even if the sea seems to be always near and present, the place is high and the waves are too strong for diving or swimming in this area close to the coast. The pools aims to bring people the feeling of being in the sea.
The new buildings - hotel, hotel rooms and spa, were designed in steel structure – a dry and less invasive construction system to the plot, always coated with Iblei Stone to remind the old constructions on the surroundings and merged in the landscape stone and topography making a dialog with the general layout of Ragusa - cradle of the Magna Graecia culture.
For the buildings floor, a cement tile was used to allow geometric art to be always present – a tribute to Gio Ponti.
For those who want to be closer to Nature and less to the everyday luxury of Hotel living, we proposed eight 47.5m² independent houses where guests can be completely independent of the Hotel infrastructure if wanted.
